Dressed for Court

20s razzle dazzle with a dark undertone

Dressed for Court transports audiences to the vibrant but shadowy world of 1920s Chicago, where prohibition pushed revelers into underground jazz clubs. Inspired by the real events that influenced the musical Chicago, this production takes a unique perspective, focusing on the story of Sabella, an uneducated, unglamorous, and poor Italian immigrant arrested in 1923 for the murder of her missing husband.

The play delves into profound themes such as the era’s restrictive gender roles, prejudice against immigrants, power and corruption, media sensationalism, and the fragility of justice, issues still relevant today. Drawing from Emilie Le Beau Lucchesi's book, 'Ugly Prey,' the script is rich with historical context.

Catchy, quick, and layered with a less glamorous undercurrent, Dressed for Court promises a thought-provoking exploration of societal dynamics and the manipulation of narratives, resonating with contemporary themes surrounding systemic repression and the influence of media.
