English Theatre Utrecht is setting sail for Treasure Island in April of 2027. Ahoy! Are you looking for prizes, plunder and adventure in your life? Then look no further! English Theatre Utrecht is now looking for actors to come aboard our next ensemble production, and set sail for Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island”!

The story follows a young lad named Jim Hawkins who works at an Inn with his mother. One night a grizzled old seadog who calls himself ‘Captain’ arrives causing a ruckus and setting events in motion that has Jim dealing with swashbuckling pirates and finding a treasure map leading to the fortune of the legendary pirate ‘Captain Flint’. With the help of Dr. Livesy and Squire Trelawny, they charter a ship belonging to Captain Smollett for an expedition to find the treasure, but mutiny is afoot! Jim befriends the ship's cook; Long John Silver, only to find out that he and half of the sailors on the ship are Flint’s old crew looking for their cut of the treasure!

In this production we are looking for a grittier and darker tone, filled with intimidation, murder and swashbuckling (swordfighting)! But, there will also be some much needed comic relief. Whether you are an experienced theatre kid, or have yet to set foot on stage for the first time, all are welcome to audition for this exciting and thrilling stage play!

Auditions (closed)

ETU welcomes people from all walks of life. Inclusivity is important to us and we’d like to encourage anyone to audition with us, regardless of age, gender, or ethnicity. All you need is a good grasp on the English language (don’t worry you don’t have to be a native speaker) and a tonne of excitement! Though ‘audition’ may sound daunting, our focus is on having fun, as well as making a selection for the cast. Please note that you don’t audition for a specific role, we look for chemistry between actors and assign roles where we see a fit (though we take your wishes into account). We have divided our audition into two rounds. The first round is a video audition.

Round 1: Video audition

The first step is to send in an audition video. This is your chance to show what you can do. You are free to pick your own monologue or text. You don’t have to restrict yourself to texts having to do with pirates, pick something that shows your interests and talents. Having trouble selecting a monologue? You can also choose to perform one of these texts.

The deadline for your video audition is September 18th at 23:59.

• Upload the footage to a platform of your choice making sure that anyone with a link can watch and download it.

• One video file per person. The title should be “[Your name] - Treasure Island audition“ (Eg. Miriam Saridi - Treasure Island audition)

• Be sure that your recording is 2 minutes max.

• Submit your details through the sign-up form below. Remember to include the links to your self-tape or email it afterwards to miriam@englishtheatreutrecht.com.

After we have reviewed all audition tapes, we will make a selection for callbacks to the second round of auditions.
You will be notified of a callback September 20th at the latest.

The callbacks will be held on October 1st and October 2nd. Be sure to put in your availability in the form if you’re not able to make either of those dates. Those who are selected for the callbacks will receive additional information by email.

If you didn’t make the cut, don’t be discouraged! We are happy to see you again at our next project, or you can apply for a back-stage position, we are always looking for capable stage hands!

Actor contribution fee
This is an amateur production, and actors will be asked to pay a participation fee of €185,00. A reduced €100,00 participation fee is available if your financial situation would make participation difficult. We aim to be inclusive, so if you fear you cannot afford the participation fee, please let us know directly. Asking for the reduced participation fee will not affect your chances of being cast. You can pay with your U pas allowance.

Availability:
We will rehearse every Thursday from 19:00 - 22:00 starting October 8th. When you accept a role in this performance we will expect you to be at every rehearsal unless otherwise informed.
